Course Descriptions For 2005 - 2006
CREATIVE DANCE
Creative Dance is a class for 4 and 5 year olds (boys and girls) to introduce
them to movement and music with an emphasis on improvisation and rhythmic play.
This class explores the exhilaration, joy, and magic of dancing through ribbon
play and other techniques. Tap is also introduced as it focuses on using the
body as a percussion instrument.
MINI & INNI MINIMOVERS
Mini Movers is a class for 3 year olds (boys and girls) to introduce them to
movement and music with steps, turns, jumps, and simple combinations. This class
will give the child an awareness of body, rhythm, and balance while exploring
Dance as play. Tap is also introduced as it focuses on using the body as a
percussion instrument.
BALLET
Intro (3 & 4 year olds) &
Basic (5 & 6 year olds)
As children under the age of seven do not have either the body development or
the concentration necessary to meet the demands of ballet technique, these
classes offer simple exercises and dance combinations which aid in
concentration, discipline, and coordination.
Children I
For children seven and over. The teaching of basic ballet technique.
Children II
For children eight and over who have studied ballet for at least one year.
Two classes per week are suggested.
Ballet III
For students who have achieved enough technique to perform at a faster tempo
and work on more complex combinations. At this stage, Pointe classes are
offered. Three classes per week are suggested.
Pointe
For girls eleven years or older who have strength enough to begin work "en
Pointe" (in toe shoes). (Minimum four years training at an acceptable school.)
MUSICAL THEATRE WORKSHOP
This is a 15 week course that will cost $550. Each class is 2 1/2 hours long
and will consist of a combination of theatre games, monologue work, scene study
and songs. There will also be an emphasis on speech and the speaking voice.
Students will be asked to :
1) Prepare an age appropriate:
a) Poem or nursery rhyme
b) Musical Theatre Song (please avoid "Tomorrow" from
Annie)
c) Monologue if they have one
2) Be prepared to discuss and explain a current event.
3) Students need to bring a cassette recorder, cassette, and pencil to class.

SUMMER PERFORMING ARTS CAMP
A one week intensive course, Monday through Thursday 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, in
which the students can better understand the process of performing a musical
from audition thru rehearsal to performance. The cost of these camps is
$250. The workshop will culminate in a musical showcase open to family and
friends. Because of the nature of the workshop to allow more individual
attention to each student actor, enrollment will be limited and students may be
asked to audition. First audition will be held by appointment in May
and/or June 2005.
JAZZ & THEATRE DANCE
Jazz is a combination of isolated floor exercises and stretches ending with a
jazz combination (either original Broadway choreography or teacher's
choreography). Lyrical is dance with a light and flexible quality expressing
one's personal feelings. Children must be 7 years and older preferably
with at least two years of ballet or in addition to one ballet class to partake
in these classes. Few exceptions will be granted.
HIP HOP (Street Style)
Hip Hop is a contemporary style (i.e., MTV style) of jazz.
